On the morning of February 15th, 2011, H.H. Pope Shenouda III met with a small committe of the Holy Synod and issued the following release: The Coptic Church praises Egypt's honest youth, the youth of January 25, that led Egypt in a strong and peaceful revolution and offered in this regard precious blood, the blood of the martyrs of the nation, which have been praised by Egypt, the armed forces, and even the entire nation.

We offer our condolences to their families. The Coptic Church praises Egypt's valiant military and the higher military council for their statements for the protection of Egypt from within and from outside. We support its action of dissolving the parliament and the assembly and its call for instituting safety. We believe that Egypt should be a secular democratic country that chooses its representatives with free and honest elections that are representative of all its groups. We support Egypt in its fight against poverty, corruption, and unemployment and against chaos and vandalism. Also in ensuring safety and security and the principles of social justice and national unity as well as the retribution of vandals and criminals. The Coptic Church prays for the great nation of Egypt which has a glorious history and ancient civilization. Hoping that the Lord protects it in peace and spreads tranquility, stability, safety, and prosperity.
